Fontainebleau, also known as Font or Bleau, is one of the best places to go bouldering. This trip I stayed with my girlfriend in Barbizon for the second time using airbnb. We love Barbizon for the great food and the for the bouldering in the forest plus it’s located just a 5 mins drive from Font and other areas like Trois Pignons. Check out our map below which we found here and have marked on the areas that we’ve explored, you can see that Noisy Sur-Ecole is a favourite.

All over you’ll find sandstone rock which means that the boulders are pretty soft and sandy. This time I noticed I’ve become a stronger climber as the shot above was quite technical, and most of the time you just need balance, footwork and technique.

If you’re interested in going on a bouldering trip to Font, here are some tips…

Best time?

This trip was in November and we’ve also been in March, I went with friends in July which was really hot but you can find shade. I’d say any time is ideal to go bouldering in Font you just need the rain to hold off.

You just need to bring your shoes, yoga mat and brush. (Colder months we really appreciated coffee flask).
For a bouldering mat you can get this from Pizzeria Croq Forêt located in Arbonne.
